The Pretty Reckless

Just Tonight
by: The Pretty Reckless
Debut Album: LIght Me Up

Shock horror! but this band's fronted by the sweet innocent Jenny Humphrey from gossip girl! Also known as Taylor Momsen. obviously she's a really good actress to play the part of Jenny when the true expression of herself through her music is this.

This is no Bubblegum Pop, ditsy blonde digitally enhanced nonsense that's over populating our current MTV. It's not hard rock either, but it's a good Rock~

I'm loving this album's open-to-interpretation lyrics. The first single to get out was the addictive song "Make me wanna die" featured in the awesome movie ( with young Chloe Moretz <-- my obvious bias cause of her brilliant stunts!) KICK ASS.
Well back to the music. The first song i heard was of course "make me wanna die" and i had no idea it was taylor momsen. who thought such a raw rocker voice would come from such a sweet looking girl. pass the voice and the lyrics, the instrumentals are addictive with a really nice drum beat that, duh, i love.

Well I recommend, pass the obvious "make me wanna die", this song - "Just Tonight". It's a bit more of a ballad but it's a beautifully done one with wonderful lyrics.

Here's a little taste of it:

Here we are and I can't think from all the pills, hey
Start the car and take me home
Here we are and you’re too drunk to hear a word I say
Start the car and take me home

...

Do you understand who I am
Do you wanna know
Can you really see through me now
I am about to go

Go take a good listen and see what you take out of it.

Run Kid Run
My Sweet Escape

i know this is a Christian Song but dont let that stop u from listening to it. it's lyrics are still beautiful and can be applied to any relationship except for the last bit which defines the song as a Christian song. Anyway, Run kid Run gives me a Fall Out Boy mixed with Relient K kinda vibe. So if u like the sound of Fall Out Boy and the lyrical style of Relient K i think this would be a good band to check out (:

I Fight Dragons - Rick+Mario

When you hear Rick you think Rickroll and that's exactly what I meant when I said Rick+Mario. This video-game music (or power pop on their youtube) fusion band has been on my MP3 for the last 4 months since I first heard their music on Jamlegends. This band has been inspiration for me to keep playing my guitar even though my band is on hiatus. Just listening to their renditions of my favourite video game tunes have made me wish I never sold my electric guitar for pocket money.

Besides this "(un)holy" combination of two awesome songs, they have a number of other good tracks like "Heads Up, Hearts Down" and "The Faster The Treadmill...". A pity that their EP "Cool Is Not A Number" will not be hitting stores locally but you can get a free download now by signing up on www.ifightdragons.com under their mailing list.

I can only hope that they can come on down to Singapore in the future even if they don't hit mainstream. But yeah good music like that needs to be propagated. So please give it a listen!
The youtube link is here.

Points: 9/10
Comments: Lovely cover of two awesome songs from an era of the past. Deserves every point!

Cream- Crossroads

Yo readers, I'm Angelo, friend of Edward and foe of RnB. Today I'll be doing a review on one of the quintessential 60s rock bands, Cream! The song I'll be reviewing is one of their top charters, Crossroads, best known for the explosive guitar solos by your's truly, Eric Clapton. The warmth behind the tone of his guitar really serves to bring that nostalgia of 60s rock in such insane, ear rattling fury that it would leave you slack-jawed and gasping for air. The bluesy vocals are enriched with pure rock and roll soul and don't really detract too much attention from the guitar work. Many have tried to emulate the amazing, "woman", tone of Clapton's guitar in his rock outfit Cream but, all have fell short by miles!

Score- 8/10
Comments: A great listen if your a fan of classic rock or even just a casual listener with a taste for rock music. Keep following for another overdose of soul, some time next week!

Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze

Jimi oh Jimi why did you have to go! This song Purple Haze is probably my favourite Hendrix song ever. I mean seriously the type of emotion that he actually conveys is seriously cool. I mean the solo's the lyrics everything! God if you wanna hear the best version go listen to the Woodstock 69 version.

Score: 8/10
Comments: AWESOME

The Beatles - Yesterday

I'm sorry for the late post and the lack of activity but things have been heavy for me. So here we are with a post on a really good oldie with Paul on vocals and guitar. Its a rather simple song compared to many of the songs today but the fact he wrote this from a dream he remembered is rather amazing. The very soul of the song can make you cry and is rather worth it for people if you really want to feel sad and like to dream of better days.

For this I give it 9/10
Comments: One of the best songs of the Beatles

Pixie Lott - Turn it up

you'd think that sth with a title like that would be just another stupid random dance song...BUT! it's actually a rather good song! haha...look at the lyrics..it's totally talking about those relationships where there's really no reason in staying together..yet there's no reason to break up. you still love him/her but the love has changed to more of the besttie thing and not so much the romantic love thing. it even talks about the pain that comes after the break up and the hole you'll feel but yet it'll heal and the space will fill and u'll be ok! like the song says..it's smarter to break than to hang around and fight and cheat right??! i can totally relate to this song!! (experienced it...) this song totally speaks about that in between good break ups and it's got a happy catchy tune to it so give it a listen!

"might lose my mind for a while, but I'll be fine
Have you heard there's this thing that heals, and it's called time
Clock can tick away, happy will fall in place.
I know, my heart will break, a new me will fill this space"

Turn it up to the lyrics people :D
